I can tell you from experience that Cowbee is by far the most abusive person to argue with online I have ever encountered. And I love arguing online so I’ve met a lot. I blocked them a long time ago and seeing them in a screenshot still makes me shudder. Terrible humans

Cowbee is frustrating, but he’s easy to counter once you realise his spiel.

Extremeists rely heavily on gish-gallop, bombarding you with nonsense. You need to focus on the weakest claim, point out the bias or flaw in the source, and play for neutrality and impartiality; they’ll crumble every single time.

For example, when presented with an obviously biased source like Prolewiki or Redsails, or whatever copy-paste nonsense they have, ask for something more neutral and professional in tone, such as Reuters, AP News, or a neutral article.

You are biased, your source is biased, I am intimidated by BBC, here is a far more reliable source from suckingstrongmansdick.slop that shows the T-14 Armata will solve world hunger.

Or something along those lines. I try from time to time. But am very quick to give up. So I do my part by making fun of them and donate to a good cause, which somehow makes them sooooooo angry. I wonder why.

That is their response, yeah, fortunately you can point out that liberal or western sources are transparent in their reporting and then ask why eastern sources like from China or Russia, are not transparent

(Western) media could be a lot more transparent by linking to the sources. It rarely happens. Often it looks like they do but then you click on the links and it just takes you to another one of their news stories.

There are afraid you will leave their site.

One time I was asked to provide a non-Western source on ethnic cleansing in Xianjiang, (because apparently everything I was saying was straight from the US state deparment) I provided an Al-Jazeera article which apparently wasn’t good enough because it only referenced a UN report. In this same thread I was linked a video about Chinese democracy that came straight from CCP-controlled media lol

I had something similar, but somehow worse. It was in the very early days of the API migration and the Tiananmen Square massacre came up somewhere on lemmy. Someone from grad did what they do best and postet an unintelligible word salad followed by a link which “explains it all” how much we are feed western lies. I clicked it and oh boy.

The website looked like babys first HTML project. Everything was pink. Not the calming, 70s pink. It was a fuck your eyeballs pink. And there was this seemingly endless list of hyperlinks. Some english, some chinese. I picked a link that looked the least like it would give me or my pc AIDS and I ended up with a youtube video of a chinese guy in a dimly lit room talking, into what I think was a 1990s webcam, about how he was there in Beijing in 1989 and how he came across this sketchy western dude who told him he was an CIA agent and he was planing a bloodbath for the protests. He apparently told this to everyone who was willing to listen and then vanished into the shadowrealm or something.

I ended my excursion into vatnik wonderland disturbed. Knowing that I live on a planet on which there are millions of people who look at this and go: “I KNEW IT!”

Well maybe you’re better than me but I had a terrible time. I like to have some baseline respect when arguing, and I was basically told I’m the worst person imaginable because I didn’t fully answer every single paragraph in both their essay-length comments they left on each of my comments.
