You still never explained why you like these tarrifs. It can’t be because of what you said in this comment because it doesn’t make any sense. Taxes are used, in part, to “fund other people’s lifestyles.” Perhaps you are referring to people in other countries in which we buy things from. Which, I guess technically we’ll do less of since the tarrifs cause people to buy less stuff. But that’s such a weird way to look at the world. You aren’t keeping more money. You’re just hurting yourself in hopes you hurt someone else more. What kind of fucked up moral compass is that?
I like tariffs because they protect American jobs and industries from unfair foreign competition, keeping our economy stronger and more self-reliant. I don’t care if you wanna cry about other countries not making enough money. Feel free to donate your paycheck to them.
We need to make more stuff here in our own country and become self-reliant. That takes a while and is gonna hurt. It’s worth it.
That’s a fine opinion to have, though I disagree with it. These tarrifs aren’t going to do much to moves things back to the US though. If nothing else, because the tarrifs won’t last long enough to have an effect. It’s likely that most, if not all, of them are illegal and will be struck down in court. But even if they aren’t, the next president is almost certainly going to remove them. It’s too easy of a win for them. Remove them and lower everyone’s expenses.
It takes years to move things to a new production facility. Companies aren’t going to just suddenly move production at the whim of a president unless they already have a way to accomplish that. Pssst, almost none of them do. They’re going to wait things out.
If congress actually enacted these tarrifs you’d get way more companies moving back to the US if there are cost savings in the long run. Cause those would very likely be in place a lot longer than a president’s term. The other problem is just jacking tarrifs up 100+% right out of the gate for certain countries. Even if companies want to move, that’s a lot of hurt in the meantime.
No, it makes this all even more stupid. Move fast and break things is his mantra. No plans. Why should anyone care that some people can’t take the short term hit even if things improve further down the line.

So no reason to stress. Next prez is gonna fix everything. All good! No reason to stress, then.

This was not the way to do anything.
Bless your Buddha-level patience for trying to talk to the biggest moron of 2025.
At least it wasn’t a troll. People can be reasoned with, and learn. Trolls can’t.
