Hi there.
You probably expect some sort of brigading of some sort, or some ironic post to spite you or your values, but this is not. I don’t share the provocations and general negativity that this new instance seems to have attracted.
I, for change, welcome you to the fediverse, in hope, maybe naive, that sharing a common ground would allow both of our community nembers to get out of our respective echo chambers and try to find our common values and get a better understanding of each other, rather than locking ourselves into our dogmas and differences.
Unfortunately, not everyone will share this goodwill, especially on a world as fractured as our is now, so I’ll add a “good luck” handling all the stuff that are unfortunately coming your way, and hope you will not take it too badly.
We, on the left, have our share of tankies and idiots, and that’s not going to change any time soon, but at least there are others that want to mend that broken world, even if it takes time.
Be well, stay kind, and good luck
A (French) leftist.
Same can be said of those who, for the sake of looking good to their own demographic, chose to ignore those they dislikes, painting them as some sort of mortal enemies that shouldn’t be allowed to even breath.
Fascisms doesn’t come from nowhere, those following those ideology often don’t do it out of bad faith, but to make sense of their own lives and experiences.
To prevent them from seeing the other side of the coin doesn’t do them any favor, it just prevent them from having any chance of seeing for themselves if their are any alternative arguments, forcing them toward the only way they can still see, often radicalization.
Extremism of all side feed on division, on creating false dichotomy of “them vs us” to ciment their power over others, so of you truly want to fight that, you should try to show a better way instead of showing the door, there are far more example of that approach being effective than ostracization.
“Painting [others] as some sort of mortal enemies that shouldn’t be allowed to even breath” is the playbook of conservatives not progressives. If you were actually progressive you would implicitly understand that. You would also understand that conservatives hate people whereas progressives hate behavior. That is a big difference. The answers to the big problems society is facing is going to require more than just loudly proclaiming “we should be nice to each other.” When one side of the divide loathes your existence and does everything it can to marginalize you with closed ears, there is little room for dialog. My guess is that you’re a conservative with some cognitive dissonance bubbling up in light of the fact that the quiet parts are now being spoken out loud with fervor. Either way, your approach to slump into both-sides-ism is misguided and wrong.
Fucking truth and perfect point! I like you!
