The minute I found out this was created by DHH and came preloaded with a ChatGPT link I knew it would be hot garbage. Give me an opinionated distro from someone who has a clue like John Carmack and I’ll be interested, not the madman who dreamed up Ruby on Rails (or really anything by anyone connected in any way to a train wreck like Ruby). It doesn’t surprise me in the least to find out Omarchy is a pile of fragile kludges and poorly thought out decisions.

It seems like both of them are dancing around talking about the actual issue. Reading between the lines, the Steering Committee is claiming moderators aren’t moderating based on the code of conduct but based on personal beefs they have. The Moderation Team is claiming that the Steering Committee is being political and trying to enforce moderation rules that didn’t exist and targeting specific community members. Weirdly they’re both kind of claiming the same thing but blaming each other, namely that moderation is happening that isn’t following the standards.
I’d like to know what exactly set this all off. They obviously have some specific events they’re thinking of, but are refusing to say what those are. Who got banned or yelled at that started this whole thing and why?
It’s because TV speakers are crap and audio mixing is worse. You can’t hear shit. I’ve got good headphones and I’ll watch something on my computer and it’s perfectly understandable. Then I’ll watch the same exact thing on my TV and it’s a garbled mess with the dialog drowned out by ambient noise, explosions, and the music score. No amount of playing with the audio mix seems to fix it. So yeah, subtitles it is.

Ruby is a terrible language. It combines all the worst parts of Perl and Python. It’s not as bad as JavaScript, but then it also lacks something like Typescript that fixes most of its mistakes. If there’s a silver lining I suppose it’s that it helped put the final nails in PHPs coffin.
