12 days agoIn addressing the Choi family’s wrongful death lawsuit, a city lawyer told a judge in January 2025 the police have no obligation to go and arrest someone like Rickman if he is not at the scene.
At that hearing, the judge asked the city’s lawyer: “A police officer could still sit back and do nothing in response to a complaint by a domestic violence victim because there’s no duty to look for the abuser?” The city’s lawyer answered, “That’s correct …”
John Justice, the attorney representing the city and the Lakewood Police Department, said he could not comment on pending litigation.
This story is so upsetting. There were multiple complaints detailing his escalating behavior. They failed this poor woman and the attitude above says it all…
What a rough way to go. Wonder why somebody would choose that. But it was beyond selfish to drag the poor pilots and passengers into it. People were hurt.
