it’s a powerful country that started to lose power sometime in the 1970’s. the vietnam defeat was the first sign that it had lost some of its power and afghanistan has confirmed that it is still happening.

your logic is child like; the united states power is not.

americans began forcing the dependency on latin america during the 19th century and then started doing it to the rest of the world around world war 2; it accidentally started declining thanks to nixon and reagan unwittingly kicked it into overdrive. the power is still there but it’s spread thin thanks to ukraine, taiwan, isreal, venezuela, colombia, cuba & mexico all happening at the same time; the world starting to distrust the united states because of its support for isreal despite the gazan genocide live-streaming on social media; and trump alienating the other colonial powers that have been trusted american allies until now.
your child-like characterization of countries as “good guys” or “bad guys” is one of the big reasons why westerners (especially americans) don’t know why trump is in power, or why the other countries like the united states is embracing fascism, or why the united states power has been spread so thin and no one (not even lemmy) will learn it until people like you drop this child-like characterization and start reading books that aren’t written by westerners.

yes, the united states forced that dependency on the rest of the world and it’s not just the united states that’s embracing fascism. if you’re an american, it’s not surprising to know that you’re unaware of the other fascist parties that are getting stronger in the rest of the global north like afd in germany; reform in the uk; national front in france; meloni’s victory in italy; new democracy party in greece; etc.
this child-like view of “good” and “bad” countries is holding you back.

the problem is not solved because the immigration is pushing the global north to embrace fascism and drug dealers also make you dependent up on them and you would be fool to think that dependency is automatically a good thing.

they do pick other countries and those other countries accept so many that it’s lead to larger relative immigration populations than the united states has accepted. it’s only propaganda that says they’re only coming to the united states; it’s the most accessible place you can reach on foot.
and the rest of the world cannot “gang up” the united states mostly because it has made everyone dependent upon the american financial system to keep their people fed and housed and also because we have the largest military by far that gets used every time another country tries to stop using the american financial system. only countries with large enough militaries and financial systems that can fight back are the ones that try to gang up and they’re doing it with BRICS; but even combined they’re still dramatically smaller.

you’re exhibiting the default position of americans that have completely (and hopefully unwittingly) swallowed all of the propaganda and i know this because i use to believe it too.
it’s taking me a lifetime of effort to learn from history books, lectures, and other forms of intellectual masturbation that people are forced to come here because the united states enshitifies their countries by fostering war, political violence, and corruption when the people in those countries try to install governments that want to use its natural resources to help it’s own people instead of giving it away to american capitalists. this has been happening since european colonization has been a thing, so it’s not unique to the united states.
i don’t expect you accept any of this because i didn’t at first; but i suspect that you’re atleast aware that we invade other countries for their oil. this is also true of other natural resources like minerals, foliage, strategic position, etc. we take what the american capitalists want to make a profit from and do it by any means necessary to get it, including fucking over other countries to badly that their people are forced to leave and it’s a open secret that we do it since it’s literally printed in black in white in history books as well as by our own government.

That’s certainly not the gist of most of Lemmy
that’s the gist of almost the entire western world and look at the instability & fascism that it’s causing.
anything that takes you out of that political groupthink is a good thing imo since no one is immune to propaganda and the more you hear it, the more you start to believe it.

no one has it completely together; but we all atleast agree that republicans don’t have a monopoly on being shitty human beings.

Nah. I’m just feeling let down because Lemmy tells me that only republicans do horrible things that are bad for information
you need to switch instances or atleast change your feed.

it was theater and they’re getting better at it.
i would say remember this when they justify it to their base by saying that they’ll pass the legislation after the next “blue wave” so that they can say they’ll reverse the damage that this capitulation will cause; but every time the democrats have had a majority and tried to fix healthcare, they found an excuse to prevent them from doing so and democrat voters are surprised each time it happens anyways.
the truly crazy part is that they’ll insist on voting for those same democrats anyways using self-reinforcing propaganda like “two party system” or “first past the post” or “throwing your vote away” and that will lead us back into the same situation again in the future.
it usually takes generations for an empire to decline and you’ve got it all wrong again; when you love something, you can see its flaws and recognize how to fix them.
