Best case scenario you are right, and she is a well meaning moron who doesn’t understand what a fecal transplant actually is. Or maybe found some bad info on the internet about how to “help” her kid.
Worst case, is she was trying to murder her child.
I suppose there is also a Munchausen’s by proxy angle as well. Wants to keep the kid sick to keep getting sympathy.

Holy shit (no pun intended), she tried it once, got caught before she could, and was told her future visits 'would be monitored for the patient’s wellbeing. Then she tried again and was successful before being removed from the room so doctors could treat the kid.
There’s no update on the kid as the story seems to be going on, but why the fuck didn’t the hospital/police not mandate supervised/escorted visits after she got caught the first time???
Try it on the mother and see how she react to it
