It may seem like kind of a minor complaint. Whatever, she’s a pop star. I just thought it was weird. Also I felt like it was notable because I haven’t seen this style of disagreement in a while on “main Lemmy”. I feel like this sort of unanimity of whatever-viewpoint-they-have-chosen, impervious to any logic or reasonable question, is getting more and more isolated to the banhappy instances as time goes on.
Yeah sorry, they’re right here.
Even if she made her money through the music career alone. She didn’t record, mix, burn, distribute l, advertise and sell the music on her own, she didn’t organise the tours, played the background music, do the special effects, build the stage. And that’s just a fraction of all the labour that went into her success. She became a billionaire by stealing the surplus value of the all that labour. Just like every other billionaire.
Is this satire or are you serious?
Naw fuck her. Sure, she’s rich because her music is successful. She flies her private jet everywhere even though she can afford the fanciest luxury limousine and driver in the world. She keeps extracting money from her fans that she doesn’t need.
She may not be the worst billionaire, but she is a billionaire.
They’re right, cope
I’m sucking my thumb and heating up some chicken soup right now as we speak.
Weird
so hot
I mean, there is no such thing as a good billionaire. :/
There is no such thing as a good billionaire. At some point you accumulate wealth more than you can physically use. Where all your needs in every way are met and you literally have no use for it more than hoarding. Theres so much good things you can do in this world instead of becoming a billionaire and yet she is. I will not for a second believe she did her absolute best to help others in need instead of becoming wealthy. I have no personal hate for Taylor Swift, but i do hate the rich.
Also which actually helpful and caring person flies a private yet constantly. Come on, thats just stupid. Ridiculous costs and environmental damage. You could use any other means for transportation and instead use the jet money to fund proper food for US schools or something. Literally anything else is better.
Looks more like what they dislike is the concept of a singular individual with more accrued wealth than they could ever feasibly spend.
Doubtful, given that they simp for billionaires like Putin or other wealthy dictators in the Middle East.
Yeah, and that part is fine. More what I was talking about was insisting that she’s secretly a real estate magnate and music is just her side hustle. A more textbook example of “every bad thing is true of people I don’t like” would be hard to arrive at.
Well, I mean… A quick search seems to indicate that she does indeed have a pretty extensive property portfolio to the tune of 150 million USD. Now, I don’t have a principal problem with the concept of landlords, but it’s not entirely unreasonable to criticize people using the housing market as a speculative investment vehicle to the collective detriment of people who, you know, need to be able to afford to live somewhere.
I sincerely doubt she’s somehow actually concurrently living in all those properties, so that’s probably not why she bought them.
“She didn’t get there through album sales, she got there through hoarding real estate and becoming a landlord, and investing heavily in the corporations that have ruined our lives.” was specifically what the lemmy.ml people said that I disagreed with.
The actual reality is that she made a little over 2 billion dollars in her career, almost all of it on selling tickets to live shows, and then… (lost half a billion? taxes? unclear) and now her net worth is $1.6 billion of which 10% ($150 million) is real estate. That makes sense to me. If you want to say our whole system where someone can spend $150 million on real estate is fucked (and it sounds like you do), I will completely agree with you. If you want to pretend she’s at heart a parasite and bad person because she directly physically traveled around and performed shows in front of enough people that they each bought their individual ticket and she got a cut and it all added up to billions of dollars, I will disagree.
I feel like it’s also an example of the kind of “I like to attack people as a way of indicating my displeasure with the wider system, because it’s easy and emotionally satisfying, and all issues are black and white now” Lemmy brain thinking.

Yeah, that’s fair. Claiming she made none of her money off her music is certainly nonsensical.
Yeah. Issues of wealth inequality in the US aside, I think it is indicative of how well the lemmy.ml hivemind grapples with factual reality (which is, it doesn’t).
There’s definitely a number of reasons why it’s the only instance I’ve got blocked. It’s just not worth it.
i also hate taylor swift
Tbf, I can’t imagine she’s paying all of the individuals who help her put concerts on the actual value of their contributions, but she’s pretty far down my list of priorities when it comes to abolishing billionaires. Especially since she seems to care about social pressure (selling the extra jet is a token move, but she could have just purchased a news outlet in response to uncomfortable questions instead)
Why are you posting your own L here?
is your avatar from stalker?
Stronghold
mmm… stalker
So, uhm… did she stand on a corner with a “Taylor Swift tickets here” sign or did she use Ticket Master to distribute her tickets? TM is literal cancer of the music industry. Billions my ass.
Just think, while you’re getting down and out about the billionaires and pedos of the world, you could have been getting down to this. Sick. Beat.
Nts nts nts
I mean I hate her, but just because I think she’s a mediocre hack and most people have terrible taste in music.
Says the boy posting his AI Generated album based on someone else’s work.
I’m not a Swifty, but I can understand why her fan base feels a connection, and also why her songs make a lot of guys uncomfortable.
I’ve put out several full length albums of my own music already. I did the AI thing for fun to experiment.
Judge away, though
