COVID showed just how "fragile" our economic security is. As artificial intelligence potentially takes jobs from humans, a universal basic income might be a solution.
If AI had the chance of permanently taking away a lot of jobs then maybe. Right now we just have idiots in the C-suite drinking the AI Kool-aid, trying out replacing everyone with AI, and then having to backpedal to undo the shitstorm they caused.
