This Kerbal Space Program documentary details the development of indie spaceflight simulation video game Kerbal Space Program and goes behind the scenes of its creation. Discover how Felipe Falanghe, a 3D modeler working at a marketing company in Mexico, nearly quit his job after months of stressful installation work, until his bosses made him a promise that would change his life. Instead of losing him, Squad agreed to let Felipe pitch his dream project: a game about little green astronauts launching themselves into space. What started as a risky internal experiment inside a company that had never made a game before soon turned into something much bigger than anyone expected.
The documentary also explores the many design and technical decisions that shaped Kerbal Space Program, from its early prototype and iterative development process to the huge floating-point precision problems that caused ships to tear themselves apart in mid-flight, a bug the community later nicknamed the Kraken. It shows how Squad balanced realism and fun, why the Kerbals were such a smart design choice, and how the team taught themselves increasingly complex aerospace concepts to make the game feel believable without losing its playful charm. Lastly, the documentary looks at Kerbal Space Program’s wider legacy, from its collaboration with NASA to the many players it inspired to pursue aerospace and related fields, as well as the more complicated story of what happened after its success.
