In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times Saturday, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani made clear that he plans to take any action available to him to ensure the city complies with the International Criminal Court’s warrant for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if the opportunity arises.

    I’m not sure that examining the rule of law first during a totalitarian fascist takeover is the right move.

    It is time for a change in timbre and tactics.

      I suspect the idea is to make it scary enough for Benji that he isn’t comfortable going to NYC, without having to actually arrest him.

    Unfortunately, it’s a pretty simple answer…no.

    The American Service-Members’ Protection Act literally makes it illegal for any American official to arrest Netanyahu on behalf of the ICC. On top of that, if any other country arrests him and sends him to the Hague for prosecution, that same law authorizes the US military to invade the Netherlands in order to break him out of custody.
