Can we talk about how fucked up it is that people care more about gas prices than continued democracy? I will never fucking understand people who don’t participate in politics aside from what their Facebook, Google, and TikTok slop feeds tell them.
You asked a question and I answered it. This is why people care more about their immediate costs than abstract political stuff that doesn’t directly affect them in their daily lives. Don’t blame me if you don’t like the answer.
And just because people are concerned that their immediate costs doesn’t mean they’re not politically active. You’re making a huge amount of assumptions just to make your own point sound more valid, which is pretty arrogant, vilifies, a huge amount of people who were just trying to feed themselves and their families.
Edit: Trump is in power because he lied and cheated and stole and conned tens of millions of people and de voting for him. That’s his fault. Blame the people responsible, not the victims.
They care about Democracy, but that’s a big nebulous issue, while the economy is a right now, in your face issue, that people legitimately struggle with every day.
Rich people track the Dow, and to them, that’s the health of the economy. The average person tracks gas prices the same way, and to them, THAT’S the health of the economy.
It’s not that they are particularly pissed about gas prices, that’s just the only product that changes on a daily basis, and is displayed on literally every corner in America, so it represents The Economy as a whole.
As much as I’d like to believe that, clearly it isn’t true because they will likely have forgotten about all of this in only a few years after the next election.

Democracy has been crumbling for decades. The inability to afford food is a today problem.
Shit like this is why Trump is in power, people like you normalize his, and the GOP’s, authoritarian bullshit.
I’m not normalizing anything. People need to eat.
