Aren’t they closed to everyone now?

You can only strangle something for so long. Once it’s dead, it’s dead. Strangling it more does nothing.
And as Asia goes cold turkey on the fossil fuel, and Deindustrializes they will have no need for it.

Mind you the process is going to be really horrific, but that doesn’t change the final outcome.

Currently double-gated, and at some point the US won’t be willing to maintain the ships to play gatekeeper on the other side of the world. It’s Iran’s backyard, though, so they’ll be the sole gatekeepers.

It’s not a realistic threat, because “forever” is indefinite. But, at some point they’ll be the ones unilaterally deciding who goes through.

it’s hard not to notice that all the other gulf states don’t seem to have navies or mine clearing equipment. The Iranians have been dropping mines in the straits for 30 years. It is unrealistic to expect the world to keep your front porch clean, do some of the work yourself. The USA doesn’t even need your oil. We are just there to support the mass murdering genocidal fanatics in Israel.

The gulf monarchies don’t have any military. All they have is mercenaries. Pretend-troops. Exaggerated of course, but close to the truth.

They don’t trust their own people with weapons because they could overthrow them. Their military power relies solely on allies, especially the US.

You say it’s unrealistic for them to expect the world to keep their front porch clean, but that’s exactly how it worked so far. Or at least the others didn’t fuck around. And we currently see the effect when “the world” (really just two countries) doesn’t do their part anymore. The US also very much needs their oil. The oil price rises everywhere, including the US.

I mean, do you own an elephant gun?

The gulf states actually had been doing a pretty good job of keeping thier front porch clean. The US and Israel are fucking this up for them.

Saudi withdrew permission for the US to use thier airspace for Operation Freedom. They want to go back to the status quo: US fucks off, and they maintain peace with Iran through thongs like diplomacy. Nobody in the region except Israel is providing anything more than minimal and token cooperation.

It’s wierd to talk about the gulf states not keeping thier front porch clean when they had been… and someone sailed across the planet to drop a flaming pile of shit on thier doorstep.
