Democrats won major contests in Tuesday's elections. In New York City's mayoral race, Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, won over former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Democratic Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill was elected New Jersey governor and Abigail Spanberger will be Virginia's first female governor.
This is honestly the best I’ve felt in the past 2 years, and especially this last year. With how the election went last year I’ve had this overwhelming sense of being outnumbered by those that want to hurt me and make my life worse. The protests helped with knowing we are not alone in our troubles, but these elections were the concrete evidence I think we all needed to see. It shows us that even though shit sucks right now we have a lot of people that’ll have our backs, which is the one thing we’ve all been lacking. Our representatives have been lackluster at best and malicious at worst. This is proof that the vast majority of Americans are fucking pissed right now and I love that for us.
I agree. It’s been a very stressful year. And this past election shows, across the country, that people are angry with the gop. The gop failed spectacularly in VA, losing 10+ state delegate seats in a state that voted for a GOP governor in the last gubernatorial.
At least for a short while, there’s a lot of hope. And I’m hoping the protests in DC today help hammer home that the GOP is the real minority in this country.
